English Pronunciation Rules in Hindi

अंग्रेजी बोलना सीखने से पहले अंग्रेजी उच्चारण को समझना आवश्यक है। सही उच्चारण के बिना, उत्कृष्ट अंग्रेजी ज्ञान भी किसी को प्रभावित नहीं करता है। सही उच्चारण का श्रोता के लिए बहुत महत्व है। अंग्रेजी एक विशाल भाषा है। इसमें एक लाख से अधिक शब्द हैं, और हर साल हजारों नए शब्द और विभिन्न भाषाओं के शब्द भी इसमें जोड़े जाते हैं। उच्चारण नियमों को समझकर हम अधिकांश शब्दों के उच्चारण को समझ सकते हैं।

हिंदी भाषा में, यदि कोई स्वर या व्यंजन किसी शब्द से पहले आता है, एक शब्द के बीच में आता है या किसी व्यंजन के साथ आता है, उसका उच्चारण समान रहता है। जैसे -

In the Hindi language, if a vowel or consonant precedes a word, comes in the middle of a word or with any consonant, its pronunciation remains the same.

Examples: काल , ताला , लंका , गुड़िया , वीणा , रावण , मरा , राम

यह अंग्रेजी में मामले में लागू नहीं होता है। अँग्रेज़ी भाषा में प्रत्येक स्वर के अनेक उच्चारण होते हैं। उच्चारण के सामान्य नियम नीचे दिए गए हैं।

It does not apply in the case in English. Each vowel has many pronunciations in the English language. General rules of pronunciation are given below.

Rule no. 1

जब किसी शब्द में एक ही स्वर (Vowel) होता है और यह या तो शब्द के आरंभ में या शब्द के बीच में आता है, लेकिन शब्द के अंत में नहीं होता है, तब उस Vowel का उच्चारण सामान्य रूप से short होता है।

When there is a single vowel in a word and it comes either in the beginning of the word or in the middle of the word but not at the end of the word, then the pronunciation of that vowel is normally short.

Examples: ban, man, map

Rule no. 1 - Exception

व्यंजन 'R' और 'S' से पहले Vowel 'a' आने पर अपवाद शब्द बनते हैं।

Exception words are formed when Vowel 'a' comes before consonants 'R' and 'S'.

Examples: bar, car, has

Rule no. 2

आमतौर पर जब किसी शब्द में व्यंजन 'R' और 'S' से पहले Vowel 'a' आता है और व्यंजन 'R' व 'S' के बाद कोई Vowel ना हो तब स्वर 'a' का उच्चारण 'आ' होता है। 

Usually when Vowel 'a' comes before consonants 'R' & 'S' and no vowel follows after 'R' & 'S', then the Vowel 'a' sounds like 'aa'
