Might

सुझाव: जब हमें विनम्रता से किसी के लिए कोई सुझाव दिया जाता है तो 'Might' का उपयोग 'May' से बेहतर है।

Suggestion: When we have to politely offer a suggestion to someone then the use of 'Might' is preferable over 'May'. 

Look at the examples:

क्या आपको नहीं लगता कि आशिष की हालत खराब हो सकती है?	Don't you think Ashish's condition might get worse?
आप बस के बजाय मेट्रो द्वारा नोएडा सिटी सेंटर आने पर विचार कर सकते हैं।	You might consider coming to Noida City centre by Metro instead of a bus.
आप बेहतर स्वास्थ्य के लिए योग और पैदल चलने पर विचार कर सकते हैं।	You might consider Yoga and Walk for better health.
यह बेहतर हो सकता है कि आप अपने अंकों को अपने अभिभावकों को बाद के मुक़ाबले अभी बताएं।	It might be better if you tell your marks to your parents now than later.

झुंझलाहट दिखाने के लिए:  जब हमें किसी को झुंझलाहट दिखानी पड़ती है तो इस बात पर ज़ोर देने के लिए कि उन्हें कुछ करना चाहिए था, हम 'Might' का इस्तेमाल करते हैं।

To show annoyance:  When we have to show annoyance to someone to emphasise that they should have done something, then we use 'Might'.

Look at the examples:

क्या हम ऐसे छोटे मुद्दों पर भी लड़ सकते हैं?	Might we fight over such petty issues?
आप अधिक सम्मान देने की कोशिश नहीं कर सकते क्या?	Might you not try to be more respectful?
क्या आप अपने बूढ़े माता-पिता के पास कुछ देर नहीं बैठ सकते?	Might you not sit awhile beside your old parents?

'May' का पास्ट टेन्स 'Might' है।  पास्ट टेन्स में जब indirect speech का वाक्य में उपयोग किया जाता है, तो 'May' को 'Might' में बदला जा सकता है। याद रखना कि आधुनिक अंग्रेजी में यह नियम लचीला हो गया है और दोनों शब्दों का प्रयोग सही है।

'Might' is the past tense of 'May'.   In the past tense, when indirect speech is used in a sentence, 'May' can be changed to 'Might'. Do remember that in modern English, this rule has become flexible, and it tends to be correct to use both words interchangeably.

Look at the examples:

He said to me, "He may come today".	He told me that he might come that day.
She asked, " May she go to Chandigarh by bus"?	She asked whether she might go to Chandigarh by bus.
The principal said to students, "You all may appear in the campus interview".	The principal told students that they all might appear in the campus interview.
Her mother said to me, "She may agree to accompany her".	Her mother told me that she might agree to accompany her.
He said to Avyan, "You may dance in front of all".	He told Avyan that he might dance in front of all.
Hemant says, "He may register for after-work classes".	Hemant said that he might register for after-work classes.
