Uses of 'Used to':
'Used to' in Negative and Interrogative Sentences.
'Used to’ का नेगेटिव है ('didn't + use + to)। हम 'use to' के सामने 'did not' का उपयोग करते हैं। ध्यान दें कि हमने 'd' को 'used' से हटा दिया है। नकारात्मक और प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों में अधिकतर 'used' से बचा जाता है और केवल 'use' लिखना उचित है।
The negative of 'used to' is ('didn't + use + to). We use 'did not’ in front of 'use to'. Notice that we have removed 'd' from 'used'. Mostly use of 'used 'in negative and question sentences is avoided and it is advisable to write 'use' only.
Look at the following examples:
| वह सच नही बोला करता था। | He did not use to speak the truth. |
| हम इतने लगातार लंच या डिनर के लिये बाहर नही जाया करते थे। | We did not use to go out for lunch or dinner so frequently. |
| वह अपने आपको अपने कमरे में बंद कर घंटो आराम नही किया करती थी। | She did not use to shut herself in her room and rest for hours. |
| क्या हम हर रविवार को मंदिर जाया करते थे? | Did we use to go to the temple every Sunday? |
| जब मैं बच्चा था तब मैं मिठाई पसंद नहीं किया करता था, अब मुझे यह पसंद है। | I didn't use to like sweets as a kid now I love it. |
| हम देर रात तक पढ़ाई नही किया करते थे, हम सुबह जल्दी उठ जाते थे। | We didn't use to study late nights; we used to get up early in the morning. |
| मैं नेट सर्फ नही किया करता था, मैं एक पुस्तकालय जाना ज़्यादा पसंद करता था। | I din't use to surf the net, I used to prefer visiting a library. |
| पुनीत मुझे नाम से संबोधित नही किया करते थे, वह मुझे हमेशा मेडम कहा करते थे। | Puneet didn't use to address me by name; he always called me madam. |
| हेमा यह नापसनद करती थी जब लोग उसका जन्मदिन भूल जाया करते थे। | Hema didn't use to like when people forgot her birthday. |
| क्या आप पहले शेयर बाजार में निवेश किया करते थे? | Did you use to invest in share market earlier? |
| क्या वह एक पेशेवर की तरह घोड़े की सवारी नही किया करती थी? | Didn't she use to ride a horse like a professional? |
| क्या आपका पूरा परिवार रविवार के खाने के लिए अपने पुश्तेनी घर में नहीं मिला करता था? | Didn't your whole family use to meet at their ancestral house for Sunday lunch? |
