Should/Ought To

Look at the following examples:

मैंने आपका पिछला प्रदर्शन देखा है। आपका अगला प्रदर्शन भी दिल को छू लेने वाला होना चाहिए। (संभावना)	I have seen your last performance. Your next performance should also be heart touching. (Probability)
मैंने आपका पिछला प्रदर्शन देखा है। आपका अगला प्रदर्शन भी दिल को छू लेने वाला होना चाहिए। (संभावना)	I have seen your last performance. Your next performance ought to also be also heart touching. (Probability)
रिया यहां काम करने का सुनहरा अवसर क्यों छोड़े?	Why should Ria miss a golden opportunity to work here?
समीर मुझे हेलो तक नहीं कहता, तो में उसकी मदद क्यों करूँ?	Sameer doesn’t even say hello to me, so why should I help him?
आपको उनकी शादी की अनुमति देनी चाहिए वे वास्तव में एक दूसरे से प्यार करते हैं।	You ought to allow their marriage; they really love each other.
अक्टूबर में लंदन में मौसम बहुत ठंडा नहीं होना चाहिए।	The weather ought not to be very cold in London in October.
भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम को श्रृंखला जीतनी चाहिए, वे बहुत अच्छी तरह से खेल रहे हैं।	Indian cricket team ought to win the series; they have been playing very well.

'Have' का प्रयोग - Should have/Ought to have: हम उन चीजों के बारे में बात करने के लिए 'Should have और Ought to have' का उपयोग करते हैं जो भूतकाल में होना चाहिए था, लेकिन ऐसा नहीं हुआ या पूरा नहीं हुआ। यह पिछले कार्यों की आलोचना करने का एक तरीका है। यहाँ भी हम 'Should और Ought to' का उपयोग कर सकते हैं, हालांकि 'Ought to' मजबूत और सशक्त दिखाई देगा और इसलिए 'Should' अधिक बार उपयोग किया जाता है।

Use of 'Have' - Should have/Ought to have: We use 'Should have and Ought to have' to talk about things that should have happened or should've been done in the past, but didn't happen or got done. It's a way of criticising past actions. Again here also we can use 'Should and Ought to', though 'Ought to' will appear stronger and forceful and hence 'Should have' is used more often.

Look at the following examples:

उसे मेरी कार लेने से पहले मेरी इजाजत माँगनी चाहिये थी। (परंतु उसने नही मांगी)	He should have sought my permission before he took my car. (But he didn't seek permission)
उसे मेरी कार लेने से पहले मेरी इजाजत माँगनी चाहिये थी। (परंतु उसने नही मांगी)	He ought to have sought my permission before he took my car. (But he didn't seek permission)
सिमरन को अब तक स्टेशन के लिए रवाना हो जाना चाहिए।	Simran ought to have left for the station by now.
जब तक हम बाहर हें, हमें घर की देखभाल करने के बारे में पहरेदार को सूचित करना चाहिए था।	We ought to have informed the society guard about taking care of the house while we are away.
बच्चों को इस मौसम में टोपी और सनस्क्रीन लगाने के लिए कहा जाना चाहिए था।	The children should have been asked to wear caps and sunscreen in this weather.
स्नातक स्तर पर मेरे मुख्य विषय के रूप में मुझे अंग्रेजी का अध्ययन करना चाहिए था	I ought to have studied English as my main subject in graduation.
चोपड़ा परिवार को विदेश में जा बसने के बजाय यहीं रहना चाहिए था।	The Chopra's ought to have stayed back here rather than migrating abroad.
