Direct-Indirect Speech - Simple Sentences

अब हम जानते हैं कि सर्वनाम रिपोर्टिंग वर्ब के सब्जेक्ट या ऑब्जेक्ट के अनुसार बदले जाते हैं। हम यह ध्यान रखें कि सर्वनाम का Case नहीं बदलता है और हम रिपोर्टिंग वर्ब के सब्जेक्ट या ऑब्जेक्ट (जो उपरोक्त नियम द्वारा निर्देशित है) के Case का ही प्रयोग करते हैं।

Now we know that pronouns are changed according to the subject or object of the reporting verb. We should note that the Case of the pronoun does not change and we use the Case of the subject or object of the reporting verb (which is guided by the rule above).

Person Nominative Case Objective Case Possessive Case Reflexive Case
Singular Pronoun
First I - मैं me - मुझे my/mine - मेरा myself - अपने आप
Second you - तुम you - तुम्हें your/yours - तुम्हारा yourself - तुमने अपने आप
Third male he/she/it - वह / यह him/her/hers/it - उसे / वह his/her/its - उसका / इसका himself/herself/itself - उसने अपने आप
Plural Pronoun
First we - हम us - हम/ हमे our/ours - हमारा ourselves - हमने अपने आप
Second you - तुम you - तुम्हें your/yours - तुम्हारा yourselves - तुमने अपने आप
Third male they - वे them - उनका their/theirs - उनके themselves - उन्होने अपने आप

Let's take three examples and see how the SON-Rule works:

Example: Direct Speech You say to me, "I have done my work, and she is doing her work."
Example: Indirect Speech You tell me that you have done your work and she is doing her work.
