Verb - क्रिया - An Overview
Kinds of Verb
Main verbs are mainly of two types - (i) Transitive Verbs and (ii) Intransitive Verbs
Transitive Verb
वह क्रिया जिसके पूर्ण अर्थ को व्यक्त करने के लिए किसी वाक्य में किसी ऑब्जेक्ट की आवश्यकता होती है वह एक सकर्मक (Transitive) क्रिया है। ऑब्जेक्ट के अभाव में कर्ता क्रिया के पूर्ण अर्थ को व्यक्त नहीं करता है। दूसरे शब्दों में, जिस क्रिया के साथ किसी वाक्य के अर्थ को पूरी तरह से समझने के लिए किसी ऑब्जेक्ट का उपयोग किया जाना ज़रूरी हो, उसे सकर्मक (Transitive) क्रिया कहते हैं।
A verb which requires an object in a sentence to convey complete meaning is a Transitive Verb. In the absence of the object, the subject does not express the full meaning of the verb. In other words, the verb with which an object must be used to fully understand the meaning of a sentence is called a transitive verb.

| The meaning of the verb in the above sentence is incomplete. When we use an object in a sentence the verb gives full meaning. | उपरोक्त वाक्य में क्रिया का अर्थ अधूरा है। जब हम वाक्य में एक ऑब्जेक्ट का उपयोग करते हैं तो क्रिया पूर्ण अर्थ बताती है। |
| Using an object in the above sentence makes it more meaningful - Kanika wrote her name. | उपरोक्त वाक्य में ऑब्जेक्ट का उपयोग करना इसे और अधिक सार्थक बनाता है - कनिका ने अपना नाम लिखा। |
सामान्यतः यदि हमें किसी क्रिया से 'क्या या किसको' प्रश्न करने से उत्तर मिलता है तो वह Transitive Verb है।
Normally, if we get an answer by raising a question 'what or whom' from a verb then that is a Transitive verb.
Examples:
| She is eating an apple. | वह एक सेब खा रही है। |
| He has understood the lesson. | उसने पाठ को समझा है। |
| He bought a new mobile phone for his mother. | उन्होंने अपनी मां के लिए एक नया मोबाइल फोन खरीदा। |
| He kicked the football. | उसने फुटबॉल को लात मारी। |
| Avyan has completed his homework. | अव्यन ने अपना होमवर्क पूरा कर लिया है। |
| Kanika is giving her toys to Vartika. | कनिका वर्तिका को अपने खिलौने दे रही है। |
